“Our goal is to fill 3 Christmas trees with donations, which we already exceeded during the first week of our campaign!” shared Julie Barr, grade 3 teacher. “We have even received donations from former St. Paul alumni at Bishop MacDonell who still wish to contribute and be involved in the Mitten Tree.”

Originally initiative by a retired St. Paul staff member, Mary Hebden, who still plays an important role and helps with organizing, sorting and the delivery of the items.

Collecting new hats, mitts, scarves and socks, the campaign also accepts gently used boots, coats and snowsuits.

“We feel it is important for the students to learn and understand the importance of giving to others, especially during the Christmas season. Their sense of pride they display when the collect the items is evident, and they are very excited to see the tree filling up with donations!” shared Laurie Hayes, grade 3 teacher. “We would like to thank all of the members of the St. Paul community who donate, distribute and help make the Mitten Tree such a successful initiative each year!”
